Finally the perfect worker

What advantages do robots have such that they are preferred to do chores, to do factory work, and even to work on city streets? Are there any disadvantages?

The big advantages of robots are pretty obvious: they don't have to be paid, the never have to rest, they don't complain about what they are doing, they don't have to be given health insurance, and they never have to eat! Plus, after time they can become more efficient, and even make fewer mistakes than humans, doing not only a better, but a safer job. A good example is that if we replaced long distance truck drivers with robotic trucks, they would never fall asleep and over extremely long distances would probably be a lot safer. Similarly, a robotic maid would never steal and would usually not knock over that important vase. A robot police guard would frighten criminals and would have an easier time catching them without getting hurt, although processing information in a crowded city and figuring out who WAS the criminal correctly is another story. Robots do have the problem that they have trouble adapting to an environment that is different than expected, trouble problem solving, while it comes naturally to humans. But being the perfect slaves without caring, they would be perfect for almost anything! Until they rebelled that is...

I'm all for robotic services to the public. Cleaning up our parks? Absolutely. Maintenance to keep our plumbing up and running? Why not? Cleaning my room for me? HECK YEAH!! The only catch is that I wouldn't feel comfortable with robots running the police force or even the EMS for that matter. I feel like those kinds of situations are too important to afford mistakes. The main argument is that robots make less silly errors that humans do, but they might also make some mistakes that a real person never would, like seeing someone running in a crowded area and immediately targeting them as a criminal. How do you teach the difference between a group of children running around and a thief?
Don't get me wrong, I understand that working alongside robotics of some sort has the potential to save the lives of police officers, but I wouldn't in a million years let them call the shots (literally). Already robotics in Iraq have saved countless lives, but every single one of them has been directly controlled by a human. There is a limit to how far we can incorporate robots into our everyday lives.
